Powering a New Food Hall Destination at The Custard Factory

Project Summary

Power Electrics was appointed to provide temporary power for “The Custard Factory”, a well-established entertainment complex in Digbeth, Birmingham, as it launched a new street food and live entertainment venue. The new venture aims to fill the gap left by a popular local destination, creating a vibrant space for independent food vendors and visitors. To support operations ahead of a grid upgrade, we delivered a reliable and low-noise temporary power solution to keep the kitchens running without interruption.

The Challenge

The project required a temporary power solution capable of supporting multiple independent food vendors, all operating from commercial kitchens with consistent and reliable power demands. The site presented additional challenges due to limited space and strict noise restrictions, given its public-facing location within a busy entertainment complex. Ensuring uninterrupted power was critical, as any downtime would directly impact the vendors and overall customer experience.

The Solution

Power Electrics designed a solution using three 150 kVA containerised generators operating in synchronisation. This setup provided the required 400 kVA of power while ensuring resilience through load sharing, significantly reducing the risk of downtime. The use of containerised generators (Containagens) helped minimise noise output, making them suitable for installation in a public environment, while also optimising the available space on site. Fuel management was also implemented to ensure efficient and continuous operation for the vendors.

The Results

The solution successfully delivered a stable and uninterrupted power supply, allowing the venue’s kitchens and vendors to operate smoothly ahead of the permanent grid connection. Noise levels were effectively controlled, ensuring minimal disruption within the surrounding entertainment area. The customer was highly satisfied with the outcome, and will be building more of these food halls around the UK.
