Commissioning Engineer

Job Title: Commissioning Engineer

Reports To: Contracts Manager

Hours: Full-Time 

Location: Area of operations - Nationwide. Regional depot base (Bristol/Bridgend/Eastleigh/Cannock). Depending on employee home location

Job Purpose

This is an ideal opportunity to join the independently owned, largest generator specialist in the South West, and support the growth of our business.

Although the main offices for Power Electrics Generators are located in Bristol, this role extends nationwide, wherever there is a need to assist potential and existing customers in preparing, installing, testing and commissioning generator systems. So, depending on your home base, you could operate in conjunction with one of our regional depots, which are currently in Bridgend, Eastleigh and Cannock.

Needless to say, good customer service and communication skills are essential, as you will be liaising with external contacts including Utility companies, transport infrastructure, Events and Construction organisations, local authorities etc.

Typical system equipment falling under your remit includes:

  • Generating sets (single and multiple systems)
  • Generator control panels
  • Fuel storage, fuel transfer, and fuel polishing systems and controls
  • System switchpanels and controls. Break-transfer and synchronising systems
  • FGW, CoMap, DSE, Cummins etc

You will be expected to:

  • Install, test and commission interconnecting power and control cabling (and containment) as required by the system/contract
  • Carry out snagging of company and sub-contractor installation works. This will include the generator installations and associated equipment, both mechanical and electrical (e.g. fuel pipework and transfer, LV panels and controls)
  • Carry out (on and off site) testing, fault diagnosis, repair (if required), load bank testing, and setting to work of Generating Systems
  • Produce and issue test analysis results to project team and/or customer, as needed
  • Provide training and technical support to customers, consultants and/or end users as required
  • Carry out site surveys and produce reports / risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
  • Review client/consultant generated technical specifications and drawings
  • Provide technical support and assistance to other departments, including carrying out planned service and maintenance work on customer and rental generators, fault finding as well as breakdown repairs.

So, for this role, you will have:

  • Good fault finding abilities and strong communication skills
  • Be a Qualified Electrician (Preferred)
  • Preferably hold an approved/recognised Certificate of Apprenticeship
  • Previous experience of FG Wilson control systems advantageous
  • City & Guilds in current edition of IEE wiring regulations (Preferred)
  • Forklift Licence - advantageous
  • Full Driving Licence ESSENTIAL (with towing categories preferred)
  • Good customer awareness with the ability to respond to customers’ requirements effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • CSCS or ECS Card
