Hours: Full-Time 

Location: Nationwide - Head office (Bristol based), with support at Regional depots: Bristol / Bridgend / Eastleigh / Cannock / Milton Keynes.

What is the job?

As one of the largest generator specialists, our mission is to explore new opportunities where reliable power is critical and continue to grow sustainably in current markets.

Good customer service skills are needed, as you will be liaising with both external contacts including Utility companies, Healthcare, Construction organisations, Datacentres, Emergency Services, etc. Sites visited will occasionally be challenging and you will be expected to provide an excellent service to our valued customers. Overtime and occasional nights away may be required as the work dictates.

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Typical duties include preparation, modifying, installing, testing, and commissioning of generator related systems, controls and equipment but is not limited to:
    • Generator control panels.
    • Changeover switches, switchgear, and controls.
    • Fuel level gauges, fuel transfer systems, and fuel polishing controls.
    • Deep Sea Electronics (DSE), ComAp, F.G. Wilson/Cat (Power wizard/EMCP), Woodward, etc.
    • Synchronising systems.
    • Loadbank/witness testing.
  • Fit containment, install cabling, test and commission interconnecting power and control cabling as required by the system/contract.
  • Oversee and assist with sub-contractor installation works. This may include the generator installations and associated equipment, both mechanical and electrical (e.g. fuel pipework and transfer, LV panels and controls).
  • Carry out (on and off site) testing, fault diagnosis, repair (if required), load bank testing, and setting to work of Generating Systems.
  • Deliver training, technical support and assistance to Customers, Consultants and End users as required.
  • Deliver supporting documentation, drawings, operational manuals, and procedures.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to Projects, Sales and Service teams including, but not limited to:
    • Carryout site surveys and produce reports.
    • Participate in internal review of technical specifications and drawings and liaise as appropriate.
    • Production and review of PEG generated technical specifications and drawings.
    • Assist with production of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Provide technical support and assistance to other company departments within the Power Electrics group, (Service, Sales and Rental) as required. Typical tasks include, but not limited to:
    • Carry out planned electrical upgrades and maintenance work on customer generators.
    • Fault find and carry out breakdown repairs to customers and Rental equipment.
  • Proactively contribute to the Company’s (and your own) continuous development.
  • Constructive contribution to expand on the current offerings and utilization to provide continuous improvement.
  • All employees are expected to comply with the Company Health & Safety Policy, including carrying out general housekeeping to ensure work areas, and company vehicles are tidy; and comply with all aspects of the company quality audit, health & safety and environmental management standards and procedures, proactively contributing to the company’s continuous improvement programme.

Skills and requirements

Required:

  • Possess good fault-finding abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good customer awareness with the ability to respond to customers’ requirements effectively and efficiently.
  • Full Driving Licence ESSENTIAL (with towing categories preferred).
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Holder of CSCS or ECS Card.

Preferred:

  • Synchronising controls and systems.
  • Previous experience of FG Wilson control systems advantageous.
  • Approved/recognised Certificate of Apprenticeship or Qualified Electrician.
  • City & Guild in current edition of IEE wiring regulations.
  • PLC experience.
