Job Title: Depot Manager

Hours: Full-Time 

Reports To: PE Directors

Location: Milton Keynes Depot

Job Purpose

The Power Electrics South East Generator Depot is located in Stonebridge, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, and covers the south east of the UK and London.  The depot is a newly opened, purpose-built facility, covering 1.5 acres.  The depot comprises offices, a PDI area, Workshop, Fuel Management facilities and a large yard for the fleet.  It offers increased capacity and best-in-class facilities, so that we're able to continue to support our customer base, provide market-leading service and develop new and existing relationships.  As a result, our UK coverage is now even stronger, we have improved delivery and response times to the east of the UK and offer even better support with an increase in specialist and skilled staff.

We now need a forward-thinking, customer focussed individual to proactively build on our success, and with proven leadership skills to manage, motivate and develop the growing team. 

Key Tasks & Main Duties

  1. Ensuring that the Depot operations, employees, and products are safe and comply with PE’s safety standards
  2. Ensuring that all aspects of work and process are carried out in line with Health and Safety guidelines
  3. Ensuring that the Depot is performing against all agreed targets/budgets and managing all costs within
  4. Responsible for supervising stock takes and acting as custodian of all assets across the Depot
  5. Responsible for overseeing purchasing of all depot equipment, tools, and general orders
  6. Effective co-ordination of the whole site including the most efficient use of transport resources
  7. Creating management reports on a monthly basis, with an awareness of P & L
  8. Recruitment, coaching, and providing feedback to depot employees and ensuring that all training and development needs are met - conducting timely job chats, development and training records
  9. Ensuring effective communication across Depot's employees
  10. Ensuring that the quality of customer care/service and products provided reflect the highest levels of excellence to which PE is committed
  11. Prompt completion of relevant reports, e.g. weekly figures, credit query reports, equipment levels on a daily and weekly basis, stock takes, employee attendance etc.
  12. Liaising with the Sales Director, Business Development Director, and Sales team including Regional Sales Manager and assisting in the management of customer accounts on a regular basis
  13. Ensuring that the Depot is consistently presented to a high level to promote a professional image to the Customer, including wearing of PE uniform by all Depot Employees and that vehicles and hire fleet are presented to Customers in accordance with Company standards
  14. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge across the Depot of the Company’s equipment for hire/sale and the ability to demonstrate the safe use of equipment
  15. Ensure you and your team members comply with all aspects of the company ISO 9001:2015 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) procedures, proactively contributing to the company’s continuous improvement programme
  16. Overseeing the accuracy and completeness of all paperwork and ensuring that the procedure for contracts, purchase orders, stock transfers, etc. is followed correctly, e.g. all on-hires and all off-hires signed to minimise credit queries, daily vehicle logs completed by Drivers, etc.

Key Measures of Performance

  1. Depot compliance with Health and Safety Audits, Procedures and the avoidance of serious Health and Safety incidents at the Depot (on/off site)
  2. The sales and profit performance of the Depot and the Region, including growth in the Depot’s Hire and Sales and the sales and profit performance of the Company
  3. Asset Management in the Depot across the various Divisions/Departments
  4. Customer Satisfaction Performance
  5. Ensure all management reporting is completed
  6. Employee absence and turnover within the levels expected by PE
  7. Completion of all relevant training courses, as appropriate
  8. Development and progression of employees
  9. Contribution of the Depot to the wider PE Group

Skills & Experience Required

  1. Excellent understanding and experience of managing Health and Safety practices at work
  2. Excellent communication and organisational skills
  3. PC literate with experience of Microsoft Office Programmes. Have experience of business systems such as (InspHire) & CRM Systems (Goldmine)
  4. Ability to prioritise work load and work under pressure and to strict deadlines
  5. Ability to understand and work with P & L accounts and budgets
  6. Full driving licence
  7. Ability to demonstrate sound Commercial and Financial Acumen
  8. Capability to take ownership and responsibility
  9. Ability to adapt to individual and operational change in a diverse and fast-paced organisation
  10. Demonstrate a clear understanding of logistics, operations and sales
  11. Evidence of attained sales and profitability growth
  12. Ability to motivate and manage a large team
  13. Local area knowledge of the market and sectors
  14. Previous industry experience
  15. IOSH qualified – not essential but desirable
