What is the job?

The Depot Manager is responsible for leading and managing the South West Depot Rental team comprising of Rental Controllers and Generator PDI & Electrical PDI teams.

This role ensures the seamless operation of the South West depots generator hire process, from customer enquiry to equipment delivery and collection. The Depot Manager will oversea team performance, operational efficiency, and compliance whilst driving excellent customer service standards.

What will you be doing in this role?

Team Leadership & Management

  • Supervise and support the hire desk rental function
  • Supervise and support the Generator PDI team
  • Supervise and support the Electrical PDI team
  • Set clear performance targets and ensure team members are motivated and aligned with company goals
  • Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews and provide training to enhance skills and knowledge
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, safety and continuous improvement

Operational oversight

Oversee the entire generator hire process, ensuring timely and efficient service delivery

  • Pricing of quotations
  • Invoice queries
  • Off hiring
  • Ensure both PDI teams are conducting thorough inspections to ensure all equipment is inspected, tested and compliant prior to delivery

Customer Service & Relationship Management

  • Act as an escalation point for complex or high profile customer enquiries or issues, ensuring prompt resolution
  • Supervise / mentor the Rental Controllers to maintain high levels of customer standards
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and company stake holders
  • Review / analyse customer feedback and implement improvements to enhance service quality

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all equipment adheres to relevant safety and compliant standards and company policies
  • Oversee the company’s health and safety procedures to ensure compliance
  • Regularly review PDI processes to ensure compliance with current regulations and company policies

Budget & Cost Management

  • Manage budgets related to depot rental operations, team resources and equipment maintenance during the PDI process
  • Monitor costs and identify cost saving opportunities whilst maintaining service quality
  • Manage staff overtime and holiday allocations

Reporting & Analysis

  • Provide regular reports on team performance, customer spends, customer satisfaction and operational efficiencies
  • Use data driven insights to identify areas for improvement and implement process enhancements
  • Present performance updates to the Senior Management Team highlighting successes and addressing challenges

Skills and requirements

  • Proven experience in a management role within the equipment hire or Power Generation industry
  • Strong technical knowledge of generators
  • Experience leading diverse teams, including technical, administrative and sales
  • Excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills
  • Proficiency in using rental management software packages
  • Strong understanding of compliance, safety and regulatory standards within the generator hire industry
