What is the job?

As one of the largest generator specialists, our mission is to explore new opportunities where reliable power is critical and continue to grow sustainably in current markets.

This role is workshop-based, working with sheet metal and utilising the full fabrication process production line. This includes using the relevant machinery to measure, cut, fold, weld and fit metal.

It is also necessary to utilise initiative when given an off-spec job, e.g. fixing damaged metal work.

What will you be doing in this role?

  1. Full production of sheet metal fabrication– measuring, cutting, folding, welding, fitting, etc.
  2. Fabrication of steel sheet and sections, thickness from 1mm to 10mm.
  3. Operation and programming of machinery such as guillotine and press brake.
  4. Metalwork, i.e. cutting and folding metal to create components.
  5. Soundproofing units.
  6. Stripping out generator parts from containers and possibly fabricating new parts if damaged.
  7. Manual cutting with Plasma and Flame cut methods.
  8. Using own initiative to complete off-spec jobs, e.g. fixing damaged metal work.
  9. Liaise with other fabricators/staff to ensure optimum production efficiency and effectiveness are achieved.
  10. Use of appropriate handheld and powered tools and equipment to carry out the tasks set.
  11. MIG Welding sheet metal from 1mm to 15mm, sections from 3mm to 15mm.
  12. Maintain a clean and orderly workplace environment compatible with an open workshop facility
  13. Liaison with staff, supervisors and management to ensure parts availability is appropriate for the required tasks
  14. Provide general assistance in the yard, including loading and offloading materials and equipment (after the forklift licence has been taken).
  15. Comply with all aspects of the company quality management procedures (ISO 9001:2015), environmental management standards (ISO 14001: 2015) and the ISO 45001:2018 Health & Safety standard, proactively contributing to the company’s continuous improvement programme.

Skills and requirements

  • General engineering background
  • Strong sheet metal fabrication experience
  • Using own initiative to complete off-spec jobs
  • Accurate measurement skills
  • Attention to detail and good hand/eye coordination to achieve high-quality work
  • MIG welding experience
  • Reliability, good communication skills and teamwork ability
  • Experience of CNC machine operation – desirable
