Field Service Engineer

JOB TITLE: Field Service Engineer

REPORTS TO: Assistant Operations Manager  

HOURS: Full time (40 hours)

LOCATION: Milton Keynes

Job Purpose

Power Electrics is the largest generator specialist in the South West. We now have an ideal opportunity for someone to help us meet the growing demand for our services, working on major infrastructure projects.

Operating out of our brand new, purpose-built depot, our Field Service Engineers support the Rental Service Department in the service and maintenance of our own rental fleet and also customers’ own equipment. Naturally, you will have strong customer service skills, as you will be liaising with both external and internal customers, providing updates and ensuring complete customer satisfaction.

Key Tasks & Main Duties

  1. Carry out planned service and maintenance work on customers’ and rental generators
  2. Carry out breakdown/fault finding to customer and rental equipment, resolving engine electrical and mechanical problems
  3. Electrical and mechanical component replacement
  4. Basic wet and dry engine service
  5. Carry out site surveys requests as required
  6. Provide call-out cover for generator breakdowns on a rota system
  7. Comply with the Company Health & Safety Policy, including carrying out general housekeeping to ensure work areas are tidy. This includes company vehicles.
  8. Comply with all aspects of the company ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards, ISO 14001: 2015 environmental management standards and occupational health and safety management best practice, proactively contributing to the company’s continuous improvement programme.

Skills & Experience Required


  1. A relevant qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering/Diesel Fitting/ Plant i.e. City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent.
    OR to have served/completed an approved apprenticeship in Mechanical /Electrical Engineering
    OR proven experience servicing and repairing generator sets, predominantly FG Wilson, Cummins etc………. ESSENTIAL
  2. Full Driving Licence ESSENTIAL
  3. Previous experience of working in a Field Service environment advantageous
  4. Have good fault finding abilities and strong communication skills
  5. Good customer awareness with the ability to respond to customers’ requirements effectively & efficiently
  6. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  7. Holder of ECS/CSCS Card preferred

NB. The Nature of our work requires CRB checks to be carried out and any offer is dependent on satisfactory references being obtained
