What is the job?
This role offers a great opportunity for an experienced Service Engineer residing near the M4 corridor to join the South West’s largest generator specialist. You will play a key role in supporting the Service Department by performing maintenance and repairs on customer-owned diesel generators and our rental fleet. This position requires a high degree of customer interaction and collaboration with various departments, so a strong customer service focus is essential.
What will you be doing in this role?
Planned Maintenance and Service
- Perform routine servicing and maintenance of diesel generators for both customer-owned and rental equipment.
Service and Repairs
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on customer and rental generators, ensuring quick resolution of any issues.
Site Surveys
- Conduct site surveys as requested to assess service needs and maintenance requirements.
On-Call Duty
- Participate in the company’s on-call rota system to provide timely assistance during off-hours.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Follow the Company Health & Safety Policy, maintaining clean and orderly workspaces, including company vehicles.
- Comply with all aspects of the company ISO standards ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 procedures. Proactively contributing to our continuous improvement programme.
Skills and Experience
- Technical Qualifications
- A relevant qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, or Plant Maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC)
- Alternatively, completion of an approved apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Proven experience in servicing and repairing generator sets, particularly FG Wilson, Cummins, or similar (Essential)
- Troubleshooting & Communication
- Strong fault-finding skills and effective communication abilities
- Field Service Experience
- Prior experience working in a field service role (advantageous)
- Driving & Licencing
- Full driving licence required
- Customer Awareness
- Demonstrated ability to understand and meet customer requirements efficiently and effectively
- Independence and Teamwork
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Competency Cards
- ECS/CSCS or CCNSG competency card preferred but not essential (training can be provided if necessary)
Over Time Rates
Rates apply to hours worked outside of standard times, as outlined below:
