Field Service Engineer

Reports to: Service Manager

Hours: Full-Time, Permanent

Location: South East Region

Job Purpose

This role offers a great opportunity for an experienced Service Engineer. You will play a key role in supporting our new South East Depot by performing maintenance and repairs on our rental fleet of generators. This position requires a high degree of customer interaction and collaboration with various departments, so a strong customer service focus is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine servicing and maintenance of diesel generators.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on rental generators, ensuring quick resolution of any issues
  • Conduct site surveys as requested to assess service needs and maintenance requirements.
  • Participate in the company’s on-call rota system to provide timely assistance during off-hours
  • Comply with company health and safety policy
  • Comply with ISO H&S, Quality and Environmental Management procedures

 

Skills and Experience Required

  • A relevant qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, or Plant Maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC)
  • Alternatively, completion of an approved apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Proven experience in servicing and repairing generator sets, particularly FG Wilson, Cummins, or similar (Essential)
  • Strong fault-finding skills and effective communication abilities
  • Prior experience working in a field service role (advantageous)
  • Full driving licence required
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and meet customer requirements efficiently and effectively
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • ECS, CSCS or CCNSG cards preferred but not essential (training can be provided if necessary)

Overtime Rates

Days Time Rate
Monday to Friday 12.00 am to 4.00 am Double Time
8.00 am to 5.00 pm Standard Time
5pm to Midnight Time and Half
Saturdays 12.00 am to 4.00 am Double Time
4.00 am to Midnight Time and Half
Sundays & Bank Holidays All hours Double Time
