Workshop Engineer

Job Title: Workshop Engineer 

Reports To: Workshop Foreman

Hours: Full-Time (40 Hours)

Location: Midlands

Job Purpose:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the largest generator specialist in the South West. You will support the Service team in the preparation, testing and repair of electrical equipment both on our premises, and external sites throughout the UK. You will be liaising with both external customers and various departments within Power Electrics so excellent communication and customer service skills are paramount.

Key Tasks & Main Duties

  1. Investigate electrical and mechanical issues on diesel generators and associated equipment within the hire fleet to diagnose faults.
  2. Identify parts/components required to repair generators and associated equipment
  3. Plan repairs to minimise equipment downtime and maximise fleet availability
  4. Carry out electrical and mechanical repairs on diesel generators and associated equipment within the hire fleet
  5. Generator control panel upgrades
  6. In-depth engine repairs, strip down and rebuilds
  7. AC Alternator removal and installation
  8. Load test generators on completion of repair to confirm performance and document the results
  9. Provide general assistance in the yard where required, including loading and offloading equipment and operating a forklift truck. (following suitable training)
  10. Comply with the Company's Health & Safety and Environmental Policies, including carrying out general housekeeping to ensure work areas are kept tidy
  11. Comply with all aspects of the Company’s ISO standards: Quality management - ISO 9001:2015 / Environmental - ISO 14001: 2015 / Occupational health and safety management - ISO 45001:2018, proactively contributing to the company’s continuous improvement programme.

Skills & Experience Required

  1. Possess a relevant qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering/Diesel Fitting/ Plant i.e. City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent
    OR to have served/completed an approved apprenticeship in Mechanical /Electrical Engineering
    OR proven experience servicing and repairing generator sets, predominantly FG Wilson, Cummins etc………. ESSENTIAL

  2. Previous experience within the rental industry preferable.

  3. Previous experience of generator control systems such as ComAp, Deep Sea preferable.
  4. 17th / 18th Edition qualification (City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671: 2018) preferable
  5. Forklift Licence advantageous, however training can be given
