Yard Engineer

Job Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity to work with the largest generator specialist in Southwest. You will support the Generator Engineer Foreman and the Rental team in the preparation, testing and repair of generator sets. This is mainly a depot-based role; however, there will be occasions where it is necessary to travel to site.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for service, maintenance and overall upkeep and appearance of generators (15KVA and above) for Rental fleet. Ensuring manufacturers recommended service schedules are followed.
- Provide general assistance in the yard, including loading & offloading equipment.
- Carry out servicing and repairs to Power Electrics equipment off site as and when required.
- Deliver and collect generators and ancillary equipment using appropriate company vehicles where required, including refueling.
- Carry out general yard and workshop maintenance as required and keep all areas clean and tidy.
- As part of your required duties, you will be expected to go on our engineers call out rota currently 1 week in 4 this will be subject to satisfactory training.
- Liaise with Depot Foreman regarding allocation of hire equipment, parts, oil and fuels on a daily basis.
- Drive forklift in yard as required.
- Comply with all aspects of the company ISO 9001:2015 procedures, proactively contributing to the company’s continuous improvement programme.
- Comply with the Company Health & Safety Policy, including carrying out general housekeeping to ensure work areas are tidy. This includes daily Safety Checks to company vehicles
- Comply with company health and safety policy
- Comply with ISO H&S, Quality and Environmental Management procedures
Skills and Experience Required
- • Possess a relevant qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering/Diesel Fitting/Plant i.e. City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent, OR to have previous experience and knowledge of generators or large diesel engines.
- Mechanical or electrical background essential
- Driving licence ESSENTIAL (with towing categories preferred)
- Forklift licence preferred but not essential as training could be given
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Holder of CSCS / ECS Card preferred but not essential as training could be given
- Have a flexible approach to work as the needs of the business dictate.
