Power Electrics' Annual Sustainability Report

SMB JV (Eight2o)

Power Electrics were delighted to have been selected as generator upgrade delivery partner for a large Thames Water Sewage Treatment facility near Luton, through their AMP6/Eight2o alliance partner; SMB JV.

SMB JV is a design and build joint venture compromising of Skanska, MWH (Stantec) and Balfour Beatty. Our team of generator specialists worked with SMB JV projects team throughout, covering design, build, installation and commissioning delivery stages for the replacement generation assets and ancillary equipment.

The Challenge

Primarily the challenge our team faced from the outset was manufacturing lead times to enable us to meet with the client delivery deadline. Our team were able to expedite key areas of the design stages, enabling commencement of manufacturing weeks earlier than anticipated.

The Solution

Our 650kVA Prime rated generator (Digester Area) and 350kVA Prime rated generator (TT Area) were designed correspondingly with the TWUL (Thames Water Utilities Ltd) and WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical) specifications.

The units were housed within ISO style acoustic containers; designed and manufactured at Power Electrics HQ in Bristol, by our dedicated acoustics/fabrication department, and were supplied with fully bunded bulk fuel systems complete with interconnecting feed and return bunded pipework.

The controls solution included full CompAp mains synchronising systems, enabling both short and long-term paralleling with the DNO supply and all mechanical installation was carried out by an in-house mechanical engineering team.

Subsequent to the delivery of this project we have secured further contracts with other Eight2o project teams on various Thames Water sites, which is extremely positive.

"As generator services framework holders direct with Thames Water; it was a pleasure to be able to work and support one of their AMP6 partners; enabling us to showcase our products and professional services."
