Journey to Green Annual Sustainability Report 2024
The Power Electrics team is constantly testing new technologies and fresh approaches to providing more environmentally friendly temporary power. In 2024, we made significant strides towards reducing our emissions and minimising our environmental impact. This was, in part, achieved by greater use of Battery Energy Storage (BES) units and Stage V generators.
This report highlights the achievements we’ve made over the past year, detailing the innovative equipment and techniques that allowed us to not only reduce our carbon footprint, but also our customers’ in 2024.
Battery Energy Storage Units
Over the past few years, BES units, sometimes called Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), have had a significant impact on the temporary power industry. When paired with a traditional power generator, BES units create a hybrid power solution – similar to a hybrid car. By storing and releasing energy – BES units can smoothen out the ebbs and flows in power requirements that are often seen on construction sites, healthcare facilities and manufacturing plants. This increases the efficiency of the power solutions and reduces the amount of time the generator needs to run. If you would like to learn more about BES units, why not have a read of our Ultimate Guide to BES units.
We’ve continued to invest in BES units, with a total of over 230 sets within our in-house fleet. By adopting this battery technology, we can reduce the CO2 emissions that would typically be released into the atmosphere by conventional energy generators.
Stage V Generators
The latest evolution of generator designed to meet the EU’s Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) legislation, Stage V generators reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides (NOₓ), particulate matter (PM), hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) released into the atmosphere. They are equipped with technologies like Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to make them a more environmentally friendly temporary power solution. To learn more about Stage V Generators, check out our blog called: ‘What is Stage V and Why Should You Care’?
With the addition of our containerised Stage V generators, we’ve seen customers increasingly adopting this more environmentally friendly source of temporary power.
HVO Fuel
Another way we have helped our customers to reduce their carbon footprint is by providing Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel. This fuel can be used in our generators instead of diesel and reduces carbon emissions, nitrogen oxides and particulates. To learn more about HVO fuel and its benefits, have a read of our blog: What is HVO fuel?
Our Operational Savings
We’ve continued to work on improving the energy efficiency of our operational activities; investing in greener technologies, implementing energy-efficient practices and continuously exploring innovative solutions to mitigate emissions. Throughout 2024 we installed hundreds of efficient LED lights across our depot network, as well as adopting more efficient bottom-loading fuel dispensers at all our depots.
Our Customers’ Savings
Through the use of BES units, Stage V Generators, and HVO fuel, we have helped our customers cut their CO2 emissions by over 55,298 tonnes in 2024 alone.

Savings Equivalencies
55,000 tonnes is approximately the same amount of CO2 that 1.8 million mature trees would absorb in a year. That’s the equivalent to flying a Boeing 747 aircraft around the Earth around 467 times. It’s the same carbon footprint as 20,700,000,000 cheeseburgers… we’re not sure that last one really helps to visualise it, but to sum-up – it’s a lot.

2025
While we have been patting ourselves and our customers on the back for achieving great emissions savings in 2024, that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop there. In 2025 we’re continuing to grow our fleet of sustainable power equipment, expanding the Stage V generator fleet and investing in larger and more advanced batteries. Check in this time next year to see how much we’ve achieved!
