Our ISO Credentials and What they Mean for our Customers
Imagine a generator hire business that did not have ISO credentials. From employees working on high-voltage, powerful machines without the protection of rigorous and reliable health and safety standards to equipment not maintained by specialists, permitted to be used on sites without any corresponding checks and PDI (pre-delivery inspection) that ISO insists upon. This scenario, thankfully, is confined to Compliance Department nightmares, as our robust health & safety legislation and ISO credentials ensure that employee safety is at the forefront of our operations.
What are ISO Credentials?
At Power Electrics, we pride ourselves on our commitment to compliance, quality, safety and sustainability. Overseeing these core elements of our business are our ISO credentials. The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) is a global body that creates and publishes standards to ensure the quality, safety and efficiency of products, services and systems.
ISO certification demonstrates that a company is compliant with international best practices and is crucial in the temporary power industry to show safety, performance and adherence to regulatory requirements. A thread running through every fibre of the business, our ISO credentials guide our vision for the future and our day-to-day decision making.
The Compliance Department are the driving force and fountain of knowledge on all things ISO in nature. They ensure that every aspect of the organisation operates to the highest recognised standards. The department conducts regular internal audits, ensuring that we are always working within our four main ISO standards: Quality Management, Environmental Management, Occupational Health & Safety Management and Energy Management Accreditation.
ISO 9001 - Quality Management
We have a commitment to ensuring that our products and services are high-quality and meet customer expectations and regulations, while fostering continuous improvement. We implement this commitment in a variety of ways such as by ensuring our processes are documented, consistent, and subject to continuous review. This guarantees that whether providing a generator or hybrid unit, the service remains reliable, well-maintained, and client-focused. This commitment to quality is showcased by our recent investment in brand- new, bespoke Dumarey BES units - custom built for Power Electrics with upgraded busbars for handling higher currents with better efficiency and enhancements to the firmware for smarter monitoring.
ISO 14001 - Environmental Management
This is an assurance that we are committed to environmentally sound practices, while improving efficiency and minimising waste. Through structured controls on emissions, fuel efficiency, and waste reduction, we ensure compliance with environmental obligations while supporting client sustainability objectives. This accreditation ensures that we are always striving to reduce our carbon footprint. According to the British Safety Council, this standard creates a sustainable and responsible culture that prioritises employee health, engagement and trust. It illustrates that employees value working for responsible companies, leading to a motivated and engaged workforce who are dedicated to providing exceptional service.
ISO 14001 In Action
We reduce our carbon footprint through a variety of methods such as checking fuel usage of the company vehicles and checking the gas and electricity used to heat depot buildings. We also do thorough data gathering: sourcing many data sets from numerous systems around our regional depots. Our full commitment to reducing our carbon footprint is laid out in our Journey to Green Initiative which you can read more about here.
ISO 45001 - Occupational Health & Safety Management
We maintain robust systems for identifying and managing workplace risks. Regular audits, inspections, training, and reporting mechanism ensure the safety of all employees, contractors and clients alike. Leadership accountability and empowered Health & Safety champions underpin a culture where safety is non-negotiable. This culture of safety also extends outside the parameters of our own sites and includes customer’s sites – we maintain a legal compliance register and a register of health & safety risks on all sites. We also carry out monthly audits on different departments and around our various depots – with a H&S champion appointed in each department to carry out monthly workplace safety inspections. This culture of safety ensures that our customers can be safe in the knowledge that whenever Power Electrics staff are on site – they are operating to stringent safety standards.
ISO 50001 - Energy Management Accreditation
We continuously monitor and improve energy performance across all operations. By enforcing energy efficiency measures and tracking outcomes, we ensure compliance with standards that deliver tangible benefits: reduced fuel use, cost savings, and improved environmental performance. We have showcased this by replacing hundreds of lightbulbs with LEDs and installing a new highly-insulated roof on our Bristol headquarters and lower-energy security gates. This ISO certification is a hallmark of quality, while showcasing responsible energy practices. This accreditation is advantageous across a variety of industries from hotels and coffee chains who have standardised energy practices and achieved major reductions in consumption to the luxury car manufacturer,Bentley Motors, who after achieving their ISO 5001 certification, reduced the energy used to produce each vehicle by two-thirds, leading to a 14% reduction in overall site energy consumption. This delivered annual savings equivalent to powering over 11,500 houses. In our most recent Journey to Green Report, we noted that we helped our customers cut their CO2 emissions by over 55,298 tonnes in 2024 alone - equivalent to the carbon footprint of 20.7 billion cheeseburgers!
From a compliance standpoint, our ISO accreditations, combined with rigorous auditing, safety inspections, and the adoption of advanced Hybrid technology, demonstrate a clear message: we do not simply comply with industry standards, we exceed them. This provides assurance that every project is delivered safely, responsibly, and in alignment with regulatory and client expectations.
